This is a clssic Hollywood narrative and editing "sutures" or positions the audience in certain ways making only one prefferred reading possible, however unconcious the audience is of that position. A good example of this is the film crash when the girl runs out to stop his dad from being shot because she believes she can protect him because she has an invisible coat that her dad said will protect her.
